New Orleans day 1

I got into New Orleans pretty late last night and then stayed up pretty late blogging and figuring out what to do today. I don't know what it was about today, but I threw out every idea that I had for today and decided to explore, then go on a swamp tour and then walk around some more.

Had lunch in the French Market at the Cafe, listened to some local music and had a fried shrimp 'po boy'. The city was really packed and the sun was shining. Some how I ended up walking into a tourist shop and booking myself a swamp tour.
The tour was alright for being so expensive, but I guess it is winter time and there's not as much going on.. everything is hibernating! And our tour guide was funny, he had me in stitches the whole ride.
I was beat today. Took a nap on the bus back into the city from the swamp and got really chilly. I wandered around trying to find my parking garage, stopping in a few stores. I bought some pralines to take back to my motel; chocolate, maple, and original praline! I decided to call it a night, but I still had one more place to stop.

I met a guy last week in Philadelphia that told me that the one place I had to check out in New Orleans was the Acme Oyster Bar. Coincidentally, when I got into the city this morning, I parked in the garage right next to the restaurant.
I'll tell you, it was much easier to park in Knoxville and Memphis.. there is no damn street parking anywhere in New Orleans. This little city is packed with people.

Anyway, the Acme Oyster Bar. I waited in like for like 20 minutes, tired and cold, but I finally got in at the bar. I ordered a half dozen raw oysters, freshly shucked by the bartender, and some hush puppys and gumbo to take back with me to enjoy at my hotel.
The oysters were top of the notch, and it seems half a dozen in New Orleans is 7.. because that's how many oysters I got.

I enjoyed walking around the city today and the swamp was fun but I was too tired and chilly to enjoy the day to it's potential. Tomorrow I've definitely got some spots I am going to hit, bright and early, before I get in my car once again and drive to Tallahassee, FL.

Look out for my pictures. Glad you're all with me here on my travels. Love.
